Sometimes all we need is a listening
ear, a helping hand and a caring
heart to find balance in our lives.
My Background
I have been a licensed to practice counseling since 2001. I am trained and
experienced in doing one-on-one, and group therapy with children and adults
and couples therapy with adults. Currently, I work only with adults. I have
taught Counselor Education courses at Ohio University, University of Dayton,
University of Central Florida, Argosy University, and Eisner Institute for
Profession Studies.  Earlier in my career, I worked in several community mental
health clinics.  I have been the director of a domestic violence shelter and the
director of a community service agency.

My Qualifications
I have a doctoral degree in Counselor Education from Ohio University,
whose program is accredited by the Council for Accreditation of
Counseling and Related Educational Programs.

I am licensed as a mental health counselor in Florida.

I am a Qualified Supervisor in Florida.

I am a National Certified Counselor.

I am a member of the American Counseling Association

My Theoretical Approach
Because you will be putting a good deal of time, money, and energy into
therapy, you should choose a counselor carefully. I strongly believe you
should feel comfortable with the counselor you choose, and hopeful about
counseling. When you feel this way, counseling is more likely to be very
helpful to you. Let me describe how I see counseling.

My theoretical approach is based on Empowerment Feminist Therapy
or EFT.  The most central ideas in my work are:

Personal and Social Identities are Interdependent
This means that we will discuss all parts of your identity including your
gender, age, culture, socioeconomic status, ethnicity, race, family, friends,
work, sexual orientation, and religious or spiritual beliefs.  This will help
me understand you and how you experience your life.

The Personal is Political
This means that I allow for the possibility that social and political factors
may contribute to the cause of your problems.

Relationships are Egalitarian
This means that I work collaboratively with my clients.  I work to demystify
the counseling process and build on your personal strengths and assets.

Client’s Perspectives are Valued
This means that I will validate your lived experiences and encourage you to
value and trust your own inner wisdom.
